Claude D. Barnhart, 93, of Aleppo, Pa., died at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born August 18, 1915 in Aleppo Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Luther Oscar and Jessie Elizabeth (Riggs) Barnhart.Mr. Barnhart attended Springhill Township schools in Greene County and resided in Greene County all of his life.He served with the U. S. Army with the rank of sergeant during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the 493rd Engineer Company.Mr. Barnhart worked in the oil and gas fields for about 20 years before working for Accurate Brass Corporation in Spraggs for nine years until his retirement in 1978.He served as Springhill Township supervisor for six years and enjoyed playing pool.Surviving are a half brother, John Barnhart and his wife, Martha of Champion, Ohio; a half sister, Dorothy Montecalvo and her husband, James of Washington, Pa.; several nieces and nephews including his caretaker, Carol Jacobs and her husband Merrill of Holbrook, Pa. and several great nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brother, Charles, Lloyd and Raymond Barnhart; two sisters, Edna Plants and Naomi Hennen and a half brother, Walter "Gene" Barnhart.
