Claire E. Swan, 65, of Buffalo Twp. Washington Co., Pa. died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, September 16, 2007 in his home after suffering with a cancer related illness since August 2006.He was born March 23, 1942 in Washington, Pa. a son of the late Charles Edward and Anna Maude Wilson Swan and had been a resident of Washington County all his life.Mr. Swan was a former member of the First Christian Church in Washington.He was a 1960 graduate of Claysville High School and later graduated from the Washington School of Drafting and Dean Tech in Pittsburgh, Pa.Mr. Swan was a veteran of the Viet Nam War where he served as an E-3 (DN) with the U.S. Navy.He enjoyed fishing, gardening and listening to Johnny Cash music.Mr. Swan was a former draftsman with Consol Energy at the Mathies Mine and was last employed as an electrician with Allegheny Ludlum (Jessop Steel) in Washington for 31 years prior to retiring in November 2004.On June 22, 1968 he married Mary Ann Closser who survives.Also surviving are two sons, James Edward Swan of Buffalo Twp. and Darryl, husband of Jeral Swan of Portland, Or.; four sisters, Leah Thomas of Dennisport, Mass., Norma (Jeannie) Miller of Plainfield, CN., Mila Sprowls of Anderson, N. Carolina and Bonita, wife of Lee Doubleday of Locust Grove, VA.; a grandson, Grayson Everett Swan.Deceased in addition to his parents are a brother, Charles W. Swan and a sister, Betty Lou Mounts.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
