Obituary for Christa Stewart

Christa M. Stewart, 67, of Waynesburg, Pa. died Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in her home after suffering with ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease) since 2009.She was born April 6, 1944 in Nurnberg, Germany a daughter of the late Paul and Maria Wiegl Meindl and had resided in North Carolina from 1989 until 2008, and settled in Greene County in 2010.Mrs. Stewart was Lutheran by faith.She was a graduated from high school in Burgbernheim,Germany.Mrs. Stewart enjoyed her family, cooking, raising flowers, gardening and was an accomplished ballroom dancer. She and her husband were avid RV travelers and had traveled the US, Canada and Nova Scotia until her illness was diagnosed in 2009.Mrs. Stewart was employed as an executive secretary for the Lutheran Churches in Erlangen, Germany for 14 years and was last employed as a supervisor with Stein Mart Department Store in Hickory, N. Carolina for 8 years prior to retiring in 2007.On May 13, 1987 she married David L. Stewart who survives.Also surviving are a son, Thomas, husband of Giesla Stinglein of Forcheim, Germany; three step daughters, Dawn, wife of Louis Penland of Marion, N. Carolina, Sheila, wife of Allen Johnson of Pittsburgh and Angela, wife of Donald Miltz of Graysville; a brother, Helmut, husband of Ulla Felbinger of Gallmeisgarten, Germany; two sisters, Giesla Hildenstein of Burgbernheim, Germany and Barbara, wife of David Dehnel of Raleigh, N. Carolina; two grandchildren, Danny Gratzke and Christian Stinglein; six step grandchildren, Wesley Holton, Jessica Campbell, Jeffrey Duvall, Caleb and Kyle Garetson, Amber Miltz; six step great grandchildren.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the ALS Foundation of Western Pa., 416 Lincoln Ave, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15209.
