Charles Milliken

Charles R. "Dick" Milliken, 88, of West Alexander, Pa passed away at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, November 27, 2014 in his home after being seriously ill for the past two months. He was born August 24, 1926 in Majorsville, Pa. a son of the late William Glen and Pearl Jane Plants Milliken and had resided in the West Alexander area since 1959. Mr. Milliken was a member of the West Alexander United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher, trustee, treasurer, a former member of the church choir and the church dartball team. He was a 1945 graduate of Cameron (W.Va.) High School. Mr. Milliken raised basset hounds for several years, enjoyed gardening, and was a former community Boy Scout leader. He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army as a corporal with 1464th Area Separation Unit and was awarded the World War II Victory ribbon. Mr. Milliken was a member of the West Alexander American Legion Post 656 and a former member of the West Alexander V.F.D., the Columbia Gas and West Alexander Golf Leagues. He was last employed as a meter repairman by the former Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation in Washington, Pa. prior to retiring in 1981 and was a member of the former gas company Quarter Century Club. On March 1, 1952 he married Mary Jane Clemens who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Charles R. Milliken, Jr. of Canonsburg, Alan W., husband of Cathy Milliken and Michael L., husband of Joni Milliken both of West Alexander; a daughter, Sharon Jane, wife of John Balach of West Alexander; seven grandchildren, Carl, Nick, Matt and Carrie Milliken, Dan, Bob and Alyssa Todd; three great grandchildren, Annabelle Manderick, Alexa and Lindiray Jolly; a brother, James Milliken of West Alexander; two sisters, Jean Long of Claysville and Helen Main of Perrysville, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are two brothers, Bill and Tom Milliken; a sister, Dorothy Jacks. Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the West Alexander United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 with Rev. Daniel P. Grimes officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Dallas, W.Va. West Alexander American Legion Post 656 will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Sunday in the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Alexander United Methodist Church, PO Box 102, West Alexander, Pa. 15376. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa.
