Charles Reed Durbin, 69, of Graysville (Beulah), Pa. died unexpectedly at 5:09 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009 in the emergency room of the Washington Hospital.Mr. Durbin was born June 1, 1940 in Morris Twp. (Sycamore) Greene Co. Pa. a son of the late Charles Huffman and Bernice Ray Durbin and had resided in Bristol, Conn. from 1963 until returning to Greene Co. in 1970.He was a former member of the Nineveh United Methodist Church.Mr. Durbin enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, golf and raising beef cattle.He was a 1958 graduate of West Greene High School and enjoyed attending all and any of the sports programs at the high school.Mr. Durbin was an Eagle Scout from Nineveh and was a member of the Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club, the Waynesburg Moose and Elks Lodges, and a member of the former Columbia Gas Quarter Century Club. He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a ADR2 with the Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron PO UR.Mr. Durbin was employed from 1963 until 1970 at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Bristol, Conn. and was last employed as a well tender by the former Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. for 26 years prior to retiring in 1997.On April 14, 1962 he married Gladys Fay Baumaster who survives.Also surviving are two sons, Scott, husband of Debra L. Durbin and John, husband of Sherri Durbin both of Graysville; a brother, Harold Ray, husband of Peggy Durbin of Ormond Beach, Florida; five grandchildren, USAF Academy Cadet Candidate Joshua Durbin, Levi, Hannah, Jacob, and Wade Durbin.Deceased in addition to his parents is a brother, Larry Roger Durbin.
