Obituary for Cathy Eileen Polen

Cathy Eileen Polen, 61, of Richhill Twp., Pa. died Monday, February 9, 2015 at 9:07 a.m. in the Donnell House, Washington, Pa. after battling cancer since 2007.
She was born on December 21, 1953, a daughter of Rebecca Walker Taylor of Waynesburg, Pa. and the late Nathaniel Earl Taylor and has resided in Greene Co., Pa. most of her life.
Mrs. Polen was a member of the Unity Presbyterian Church in Graysville, Pa.
She was a 1972 graduate of West Greene High School and she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Waynesburg University in 1995 and her Masters Degree in Social Work from West Virginia University in 1997.
Mrs. Polen was employed as a social worker for Cornerstone Care (Greene Co. Locations) for 15 years prior to retiring in 2013 and was a member of the N.A.S.W (National Association of Social Workers).
She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, gem mining, traveling, bird watching, was an avid collector of vintage watering cans, and enjoyed helping people.
On August 17, 1974 she married Scott Polen who survives.
Surviving in addition to her mother and husband are two sons, Jeremy S. Polen of Waynesburg, and Nathan R., husband of Jessica Polen of Washington, Pa.; a granddaughter, Lucy Danielle Polen of Washington; three sisters, Susie, wife of Rich Bedillion of Dubois, Pa., Melissa, wife of Craig Riffle and Lisa, wife of Dave Cumberledge, both of Waynesburg; a brother, Mark Taylor of Waynesburg; and her beloved dog, Roxy.
Deceased in addition to her father is a sister, Vicki Taylor; and two brothers, Ronald and Randal Taylor.
At the request of the deceased there will be no public viewing. A gathering of friends will be held from 12 until 2 p.m., the time of a memorial service, Saturday, February 14, 2015 in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc., Rogersville, Pa with Rev. Jacob Judy officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Waynesburg University Library.
