Betty Lee Travis

Betty Lee Travis, 80, of Washington, Pa., and formerly of West Finley, Pa., died on April 8, 2015 at 11:55 p.m. in her home.

She was born on June 2, 1934 in West Finley, in the same house that her mother and grandmother was born in which was built by her great grandfather Billy Sprowls, and was the daughter of Lloyd Conley and Mary Ellen Stollar Earnest and had resided in West Finley for most of her life.

Mrs. Travis was a member of the Windy Gap Presbyterian Church where she received a white bible for 10 years of perfect attendance in Sunday school and still has the bible to this day.

She attended the former West Alexander High School.

Mrs. Travis worked for the US Navy Exchange for nine years in San Diego, Ca. and Yokosuka, Japan. Betty traveled for 23 years with her husband who was in the US Navy.

She was a member of the West Finley VFD Ladies Auxiliary, Womens Club, Mothers Club, and Friendship Club all of West Finley, wrote for the Claysville Recorder and Cameron papers, supported the Humane Society, and rescuing and adopting pets including her current dog Angel.

On June 30, 1952 she married her high school sweetheart Clyde Travis who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four children, Sandra, wife of Fuji Matsumoto of Zushi, Japan, Mona Lisa Gagnelius of Boulder, Mt, Bertie, wife of Rick Franklin of Providence, KY, and Gary, husband of Mindy Travis of West Finley; seven grandchildren, Erica Matsumoto, Steven and Chris Chavez, Amy Franklin, Amber Talapas, Chelsea and Paisley Travis; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Hartzell of West Finley.

Deceased in addition to her parents is a grandson, baby boy Matsumoto; a sister, Helen Jane Hartzell; and a son-in-law, Greg Gagnelius.

Friends will be received from2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 with Pastor Norman Cox officiating. Interment will follow in West Finley Cemetery, West Finley Twp. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the A.S.P.C.A., www.aspca.org.
