Barry C. Gashel, 57, of Claysville, Pa. died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 in his home following a courageous battle with a cancer related illness for the past 2 years. He was born October 3, 1949 in Washington, Pa. a son of Dorothy Cleo Conklin Gashel of Claysville and the late Kenneth Lee Gashel.Mr. Gashel was a 1967 graduate of McGuffey High School, a 1971 Business Administration graduate of Waynesburg College and earned a Business Education degree from Geneva College in 1972.He was an active member and volunteer of Claysville United Methodist Church. Mr. Gashel was a member of the former Squaw Hollow Hunt Club and the Claysville V.F.D.He was employed with the family owned and operated former Gashel's Market and Packing House in Claysville for 37 years and was last employed by Green Valley Packing / Albert's Meats from 2004 until retiring in December 2006.Mr. Gashel coached Claysville Girl's softball for 17 years and was a former coach for Claysville Midget football. He was a referee and official for P.I.A.A. Wrestling and was a member and Rules Interpreter of the Washington County Wrestling Officials Association and a member of W.V.S.S.A.C who honored him in 2002 as the Referee of the Year.He enjoyed playing poker and was a regular player with the same group since the early 1970s.On December 30, 1972 he married Ruth Jean Stollar Gashel who survives.Surviving in addition to his mother and wife, are one son, Jared Gashel of Pittsburgh; two daughters, Amanda, wife of Michael Dillon of Medina, Oh. and Jill, wife of Andrew Burt of Claysville; five grandchildren, Tyler, Alexandra and Barrett Dillon, Kayla and Abbegail Burt; one sister, Cheryl, wife of Robert Cumer of Claysville; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his father Kenneth Lee Gashel who died in 1999, is a sister Linda Gashel.
