Andrew A. Wojtowicz, 87, of Crucible, Pa. died at 8:20 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2009 in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa. after being in failing health for the past several months.He was born October 14, 1922 in Crucible a son of the late Edmund Henry and Mary Ann Silaiska Wojtowicz.Mr. Wojtowicz resided in Cleveland, Ohio for 13 years where he was employed by the A.O. Smith Electronics Co. prior to returning to the Crucible area where he had resided most of his life.He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Crucible and was a graduate of Carmichaels High School.Mr. Wojtowicz was also a member of the Crucible Slovak Club and U.M.W. Local 1058.He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the time with his grandson Domenic.Mr. Wojtowicz was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army as a Tech 4 with Hq Co. 98th Signal Battalion in New Guinea, Southern Phillipines (Liberation) and Luzon. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze service stars, American Theater-Phillipine-Liberation Ribbon with l bronze service star and the Good Conduct and World War II Victory Medals.He was employed as a roof bolter at the Crucible Mine for 18 years prior to retiring from Consol (Humphrey Mine #7) in 1984 after 13 years as a shuttle car operator.On July 1, 1950 he married Mildred Helen Hanko who died April 15, 1995.Surviving are a daughter, Mary Kathleen, wife of James Kalaski of Rogersville; a grandson, Domenic James Kalaski, U.S. Marines Corps.Deceased in addition to his parents and his wife are two brothers, Joseph and Edmund Wojtowicz; three sisters, Lucille Varesko, Anna Helmick and Geraldine Drocton.
