Allie Lee Ater, 96, of Waynesburg, Pa. and formerly of New Freeport, Pa. R.D.#1 died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003 in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg after being in failing health for the past several years.She was born March 23, 1907 in Clay County, W.Va. a daughter of Gulf and Janie Sears Groggs.Mrs. Ater had resided in Wetzel County, W.Va. prior to moving to Greene County in 1942.She was Protestant.Mrs. Ater enjoyed playing bingo.She was married to James Riley Ater who died May 14, 1985.Surviving are one sister, Sue Carpenter of Aliquippa, Pa.; seven grandchildren, William B. Ater, Jr., Shirl Ater, Brenda Ater Corwin, Sherry Ater Riffle, Ralph Nice, Jr., James Nice and Lou Ann Nice Virden; several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.Deceased are a daughter, Monoka Nice; two sons, William Bernard Ater, who died November 8, 2001 and Owen Dickey; a half sister, Betty Miller.
