Albert M. (Buss) Rhome, 92, of Wind Ridge, Pa. died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. after being seriously ill for the past week.He was born May 8, 1918 in Richhill Twp., Greene Co. Pa. a son of the late Peter Bradley and Mary Alice Pelkey Rhome and had resided in Marshall Co. W.Va. briefly prior to returning to Greene Co. where he resided the remainder of his life.Mr. Rhome had formerly attended the Crabapple Community Church for several years.He enjoyed ground hog hunting, gardening, and keeping his yard in immaculate shape, watching TV and the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.Mr. Rhome was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a corporal with Battery B, 204 CA BN, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in battle.He was a quadruple heart by-pass survivor of 21 years to the day, April 13, 1990Mr. Rhome has been a member of Local 66, I.U.O.E. since 1952 and was employed by the union for over 30 years prior to retiring in 1983 and was also employed by the late Raymond McCracken.On September 28, 1949 he married Margaret Dale Hillberry who survives.Also surviving are a son, Albert L. (Sonny) Rhome of Wind Ridge; three daughters, Linda D. Rhome of Wind Ridge, Marilyn S. Jones and Vickie, wife of Danny Phillips both of Spraggs; ten grandchildren, Forrest, Eric, Scott,and Laurie Rhome, Adam Rhome, Travis and Steven Jones, Danny and Chad Phillips, Misty Phillips Powell; two great grandchildren, Mia Rhome and Brandon Powell; two sisters, Helena Gallentine of Aleppo and Betty Whipkey of Cameron, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; a very special extended family member, Barbara, wife of Albert Simpson of Spraggs and a special friend of the family Kim Jones of Wind Ridge.Deceased in addition to his parents are five sisters, Georgia McQuay, Willnetta Aston, Hazel Thomas, Geneva Preston and Flossie Schrack; two brothers, William and a brother who died in infancy.Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army and the American Legion Post 330, V.F.W. Post 4753 and the D.A.V. Post 123 all of Waynesburg.
