Albert L. (Andy) Dougherty, 76, of West Alexander, Pa. died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 6:45 a.m. in the Wheeling Hospital Medical Park, Wheeling, W.Va.He was born November 10, 1928 in West Finley Twp., a son of Albert Winters and Nellie White Dougherty and had been a resident of West Finley Twp all of his life. Mr. Dougherty was a former member of the West Alexander United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, farming, small machine repair, the outdoors, carpentry and was an avid dart ball player for several years. He was scouted by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a pitcher while playing in the local men's baseball league during his late teens. He coached little league baseball and girls softball in the West Alexander area and was a former member of the Grimes Garage Bowling Team and was a square dance figure caller. Mr. Dougherty was formerly employed as a West Finley Twp. constable, school bus driver, and milk truck driver. He was last employed as a traveling heavy equipment mechanic for Columbia Gas Transmission from 1955 until his retirement on January 1, 1988 and was a member of the Columbia Gas Quarter Century Club.On June 24, 1950, he married Elaine Gladys Hanlin Dougherty who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Debra wife of Thomas Williams of West Alexander, Pa.; two grandsons, Thomas Lee ("T.L.") and Timothy James ("T.J.") Williams and one brother, James Dougherty of Yadkinville, N.C.Deceased are one daughter, Annette Dougherty and two sisters, Lena Kennedy and Ida Belle Booth.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Alexander United Methodist Church Post Office Box 302, West Alexander, Pa. 15376.
