John E. "Buck" Smith

John E. “Buck” Smith, age 78, a lifetime resident of Center Township, PA, passed away at home on Thursday, June 1, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Born November 28, 1938, in Center Township, he is the son of the late John and Kathleen (Stewart) Smith.

John graduated in 1957 from West Greene High School. He was a member of the Rogersville Christian Church. John, along with his wife Kay, owned and operated Smith Farms for 53 years. He had over 50 years invested in raising livestock. He grew and sold sweet corn and produce to the tri-county area as well as West Virginia for nearly 40 years. He operated a custom butcher shop as well as a sawmill on the farm. In his free time, he enjoyed painting and rebuilding his tractors, fishing and hunting, watching Westerns, spending time with his faithful dog Buddy and sharing time with family and friends.

He leaves behind the love of his life of 53 years, his wife, Sharon “Kay” (Cumberledge) Smith, of Center Township; his seven children, John (Joella) Smith, Jr., of Waynesburg, Joann Roberts, of Waynesburg, Yvonne Kughn, of Valencia, PA, Brian (Krystal) Smith, of Holbrook, Brenda (John) Hoge, of Waynesburg, Jenny (Mike) Porter, of Waynesburg, and Rebecca (Bryan) Cole, of Waynesburg; grandchildren, Emily Smith, Jess Roberts, Bradley (Katie) Kughn, Austin Smith, Johnny Hoge, Tyler and Tucker Porter, Bianca and Hannah Cole; one great-grandchild, Aubrey Kughn; one brother, Robert M. Smith, of Waynesburg; many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Madeline Hoge.

Friends are welcome on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 10 a.m- 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. and also on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 12 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC., 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Rogersville, PA 15359. (724) 499-5181. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Crawford, officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Center Township, PA.
