April A. Slifko

April A. Slifko, age 49, of Rogersville, PA, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 in her home.

Born April 3, 1968, she is the daughter of Cathie Renner, of Waynesburg, PA.

A 1986 graduate of West Greene Middle-Senior High School, April was a gifted athlete who excelled in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was a standout freshman first baseman on West Greene’s 1983 team, which advanced to the PIAA Quarter Finals.

After graduation, April attended Alderson Broaddus in Phillipi, WV, on a volleyball scholarship.

April received her paramedic certification at the Center for Emergency Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA, and her career spanned more than 25 years. She served with City of Pittsburgh EMS, EMS Southwest, Guardian Angel Ambulance Service, Medevac Ambulance Transport and, most recently, Priority One EMS. April served as an EMS Field Supervisor, EMS Training Specialist, Quality Assurance and Compliance Coordinator, and was a member of the PA Strike Team.

April loved the outdoors, campfires, and renovating her cabin. She was a gifted artist and cook.

April was an upbeat person who looked for the best in everyone she met, and surrounded herself with a large variety of unique and eclectic friends. She had a knack for finding the positives in every situation, even when it came to the illness that ravaged her. She was a role model of strength, love, and light to all who knew her.

April was the “animal whisperer” who befriended all of her friends’ pets. She forged a bond with her roommates’ cat, Belle, who died on the same day.

In addition to her mother, April is survived by her beloved younger brother, Cory(Laurie) Slifko of Waynesburg, PA; two stepsisters, Alissa (Andrew)Burns, of Wind Ridge, and Julie Slifko of Pierson, FL; two nephews, Colten and Lucas Slifko.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or formal service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC., 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Rogersville, PA 15359.
